"Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka"
  Genre: Russian prose, fiction

The first book, which I am going to blog about is " Vechera na khutore bliz Dikanki" by Nikolai Gogol. He was a Great Russian dramatist, novelist and short story writer of Ukrainian ethnicity.
Each Gogol’s book is refreshing and gives a new interpretation of the world for people who read his work.

"Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka" is the collection of interesting and unforgettable short stories, which was published in 1831.
The first book consists of 4 parts:

          Sorochinskaya yarmarka (Sorochintsï Fair)
Vecher na kanune Ivana Kupala (St. John's Eve)
Mayskaya noch', ili Utoplenitsa (May Night, or The Drowned Maiden)
          Propavshaya gramota (The Lost Letter)

The composition is full of mystical and incredible occurrence.
The book fully describes Ukrainian traditions and superstitions, which is maintained with specific language of this time.
Once you start reading it, you will never tear yourself away from this book.

  1. This book sounds interesting, I've always wanted to learn more about Ukrainian heritage and folk tales. I'll have to see if it's available at the schools library or online. Awesome post.
